About Malawai

Malawai stands for 'cute mala'. It contains the words 'mala' and a contraction of the japanese word 'kawaii', meaning cute. It also represents my Australian heritage.

The Mala, or rufous-hare wallaby, is a small wallaby who once roamed the central deserts of Australia. They are my favourite wallaby, and I travelled all the way to Central Australia to see one face to face in 2007. Unfortunately the mala is extinct in the wild and can only be observed in captivity. It's population has diminished since the introduction of foxes and feral cats to Australia, alongside altered traditional fire burning practices.

Do you take commissions?

Yes! I take on commissions ranging from sketches to completed drawings. The number of commissions I take simultaneously varies with the amount of work involved. Please check my commission stats for further details. If commissions are 'closed' then it currently means I am busy with other work.

Other information

Completed a combined Arts/Science degree at the Australian National University in 2008, majoring in Biological Anthropology (arts) and Ecology and Evolution (science).
